| Summary, Etc. |
James Wilson wrote the first draft of the Constitution and, along with the more famous James Madison, played an essential role in its ultimate creation. Wilson believed that the people are the ultimate source of power and argued successfully for a strong central government and powerful presidency. He fought unsuccessfully for a direct vote for the president and Senate. Yet instead of being remembered as one of the most pivotal figures in American history, his role as been virtually ignored. This biography brings to light the important historical figure.
